Bambino Hubs: How Motorsport is Transforming Rural African Communities

At the heart of Formula Africa's mission lies the Bambino Hubs initiative — a grassroots programme that transforms abandoned and underused buildings across rural Africa into vibrant youth development centres.

Each Bambino Hub is designed as a self-sustaining community space that combines motorsport introduction (through karting and sim racing), STEM education, digital literacy, sports facilities, and solar-powered energy systems.

More Than Motorsport

While karting and racing simulators provide the initial draw, Bambino Hubs are designed to deliver far more than motorsport training. Each hub includes:

  • STEM Education Facilities — Hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through the lens of motorsport
  • Digital Literacy Centres — Computer labs and internet access powered by solar energy
  • Sports & Recreation — Football pitches, multi-sport areas, and fitness equipment
  • Solar Energy Systems — FAM Energy Systems provide off-grid power, making hubs viable in remote locations
  • Community Gathering Spaces — Meeting rooms and event areas for the broader community

The Transformation

The before-and-after impact of a Bambino Hub installation is striking. Buildings that were previously derelict or unused become thriving centres of activity, drawing young people from surrounding communities and providing structured development pathways.

The first pilot hubs are being established in Southern Africa, with plans to scale across all five of Formula Africa's strategic regions by 2028.

Get Involved

Organisations interested in sponsoring or supporting a Bambino Hub can reach out through the Formula Africa website. Each hub offers naming rights and community engagement opportunities for corporate partners.
